Amanda Bossard graduated from high school in 1992 and began an education in marine science at Alaska Pacific University, Anchorage. Bossard's journey to professional success began in 1999 when she was offered a position aboard the vessel F/V Sunset. It is a 65-foot halibut vessel was converted to a salmon tender by Murat Ariatn, who has been fishing commercially for over 20 years. Bossard and Aritan are married now and have joined forces in claiming their share of their industry. They are both proponents of preserving sustainable and renewable sources of seafood. In 2007, she became a mother of two young children Bella age 3 and Andre 1 Bossard then returning to living in Philadelphia established a direct market wholesale distributor of seafood named Otolith. She and her husband are separated by five months, and she is able to focus on her goals in terms of finances and her environmental goals. Bossard's daughters Isabella, age 12, and son Andre 10 return annually to Southeast Alaska to work in the deckhand role in the wild salmon season. Hooks and lines are employed to capture their salmon after which they join Aritan for local processors for two months. Then they continue to increase their direct seafood market via Otolith Sustainable Seafood.
